Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat and sauté the shrimp until they are pink and opaque. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the remaining butter. Once melted, stir in the flour to create a roux. Cook for about 1 minute.
  5. Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to whisk until the mixture thickens and is smooth.
  6. Lower the heat and stir in the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses until melted and combined.
  7. Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
  8. Combine the cooked macaroni and shrimp with the cheese sauce, stirring well to coat.
  9. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle with extra cheese if desired.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  11. Garnish with chopped chives before serving.

Chef’s Tips

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or smoked paprika to the cheese sauce.
  • Use fresh shrimp if possible for the best flavor and texture.
  • If you’re short on time, cook the shrimp while the macaroni is boiling.
