Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, remaining sugar, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round bun.
  6. Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While the buns are cooling, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  9. Once the buns are cool, cut a small slit on the top and fill each with whipped cream and top with fresh berries.
  10. Dust the buns with additional powdered sugar before serving.

Chef’s Tips

  • For extra flavor, try adding a teaspoon of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough.
  • Make sure your milk is not too hot when adding the yeast to avoid killing it.
  • These buns can be made ahead and frozen; just thaw and fill before serving.
