Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, salt, and the mixed seeds.
- Add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch the dough down, then divide it into 4 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a round loaf and place into greased jars.
- Cover the jars with a cloth and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the jars in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let the bread cool in the jars for 10 minutes before removing.
- Slice and enjoy your seeded bread warm!
Chef’s Tips
- Experiment with different seed combinations for variety; flaxseeds or chia seeds can be great additions.
- Ensure your water is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- For a crispy crust, place a small pan of water in the oven while baking to create steam.
