Instructions
- Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel the outer layers of the onions while keeping them whole. Carefully hollow out the centers, creating space for the filling.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, breadcrumbs, parsley, garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
- Fill each hollowed onion generously with the turkey mixture, packing it tightly.
- Drizzle the filled onions with olive oil and wrap each onion in aluminum foil for grilling.
- Place the wrapped onions on the grill or in the oven, and cook for about 35-45 minutes, until the turkey is fully cooked and the onions are tender.
- Carefully unwrap the aluminum foil, and if desired, drizzle with hot sauce for an extra kick just before serving.
Chef’s Tips
- Choose the largest sweet onions you can find to ensure ample filling space and flavor.
- Experiment with different types of cheese or herbs to customize the flavor to your liking.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, mix in some chopped jalapeño or your favorite hot sauce into the filling.
