Southern Cornbread

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat Oven & Grease Skillet
  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Generously grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet with bacon grease or oil. (Grease it up real good!)
Step 2: Mix Batter
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal and self-rising flour.
  2. Stir in enough buttermilk to form a cake-like batter. (Do not overmix.)
Step 3: Bake
  1. Pour batter into the greased skillet.
  2. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
