Step 1: Make the Dough
  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the egg, butter, salt, and flour. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Shape and Fry
  1. Roll dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into doughnut shapes.
  2. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts 1–2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  3. Drain on paper towels and let cool slightly.
Step 3: Optional Coating
  1. Dust with powdered sugar or dip in glaze while warm, if desired.
